Eucalyptus Quick Start Training Program

Eucalyptus Systems now offers a comprehensive, professional training program that includes specialized training for administrators, users, and developers. Each of our training modules provides an overview of cloud computing, which includes the various types of clouds (private, public, and hybrid). The overview also includes the advantages and benefits of cloud computing.

Our administration training is comprised of a basic and an advanced module. This training is perfect for anyone who will be deploying or maintaining your company’s cloud infrastructure. Our user training provides a quick-start module, a client-side tools module, and a tutorial module that allows your users to more quickly and more effectively use your company’s private cloud. Our developer training provides in-depth instruction on cloud semantics, application-migration strategies, and application development techniques.

Eucalyptus Systems also provides sales training, which is perfect for individuals that want to have a thorough understanding of the benefits of cloud computing and the Eucalyptus Enterprise Edition offering, and want to understand how this offering can meet their customer's needs.

On-Site or Remote Training

Our training programs can be delivered to your employees via one of two modes. Our instructors deliver the training sessions at your facility. This mode of instruction maximizes the amount of direct interaction between your staff and Eucalyptus cloud experts, allowing for more informal discussion.

We also offer remote training via our web-based training technology. Our instructors guide your staff through these interactive web sessions. This mode of instruction minimizes the amount of scheduling difficulties.

Cloud administrators require more than just fluency in cloud semantics. They also need detailed knowledge of various deployment architectures and maintenance strategies, as well as exposure to best practices on various optimization approaches. Our administration training focuses on theses topics to allow your technical staff to build highly scalable and dynamic private and hybrid clouds.

Basic Administrator Training

The Basic Administrator Training session starts with an overview of cloud computing that discusses cloud types (private, public, and hybrid) and the benefits of an on-premise private cloud. A review of virtualization and hypervisor technology is presented. Based upon this prerequisite knowledge, the three-tier Eucalyptus architecture is presented.

The training session ends with an overview of the four cloud configurations, coupled with their installation and configuration procedures. Also covered are client tool installation, user management, and image management.

Advanced Administrator Training

The Advanced Administrator Training session provides thorough training on cloud configuration for more advanced networking modes. Administrators learn concepts such as security groups (VM isolation), group management, and elastic IPs. Also covered are multi-cluster Eucalyptus configuration, auto-scaling, and techniques for cloud bursting to a public cloud like Amazon EC2.

Topics covered:

  • Installing Eucalyptus (from source and binary packages)
  • Eucalyptus configuration
  • Hypervisor configuration
  • Network configuration (networking modes, multi-cluster networking)
  • Managing Eucalyptus
  • Advanced networking and security
  • Auto-scaling
  • Hybrid clouds ("cloud bursting")
  • Troubleshooting

Within a cloud environment, users need to interoperate with your cloud along with your traditional IT environment. Our user training, first, provides your employees with an overview of the cloud and the benefits of using Eucalyptus, via our quick start module.

After the introductory session, your employees are exposed to a number of client-side tools. These tools include Euca2ools, EC2 tools, and Elasticfox. The instruction of these tools focuses on user-credential management, instance management, and storage management for both the Storage Control (an implementation of Elastic Block Storage) and Walrus (an S3-like storage service).

This training session is appropriate for users who wish to self-provision their own resources on the cloud without worrying about how to administer the cloud.

Topics covered:

  • Cloud overview
  • Account creation
  • Obtaining and using credentials
  • Instance Management:
    • Listing, running, and terminating instances
    • Accessing and using instances
    • Using Elasticfox
  • Image Management (bundling, uploading and registering images)
  • Networking and security (allocating and associating IP addresses, security groups)
  • Storage Management:
    • Using block storage via the Storage Controller (creating volumes, creating snapshots, creating volumes from snapshots)
    • Using put-get bucket storage via Walrus

Developing applications for the cloud requires detailed understanding of many aspects of cloud computing: from the pros and cons of utilizing the underlying cloud primitives to architecting the application stack to best use cloud semantics. Our Developer Training is designed to transfer the knowledge of Eucalyptus Systems' experts—who have extensive experience in large-scale enterprise-cloud deployments—to help you develop best-of-breed cloud applications. Developers can choose an application design track that matches their application design focus.

Topics covered:

  • Eucalyptus Overview:
    • Conceptual architecture
    • Amazon AWS compatibility
  • Storage abstractions (S3, EBS)
  • Security groups and elastic IPs
  • Architecting applications for the cloud
  • APIs for the cloud
  • Auto-scaling and “cloud bursting”

Our Sales Training session is dedicated to providing Eucalyptus professional sales partners with the knowledge they need to successfully deliver the benefits of cloud computing to their customer base. This session focuses on the market space and value proposition of cloud computing. You learn how cloud-computing environments function and how they can deliver significant benefits to your client’s IT organization. You also learn relevant parameters to consider when evaluating potential customers: how to discover and interpret their needs and “pain points,” and how to effectively discern prospective clients’ qualification for a cloud solution.

Topics covered:

  • Cloud computing overview
  • Eucalyptus overview (architecture, security and networking, storage abstraction)
  • Benefits of automated self-service
  • Cloud vs. Virtualization
  • The cloud market space
  • Deal qualification
  • Use cases
  • Eucalyptus demonstration
